Unfinished Bodies 未完成的躯体 [2025]  

Unfinished Body seeks to prompt audiences to reflect on a crucial contradiction in contemporary notions of physicality: within Western theoretical and scientific frameworks, studies of “body and soul” using the “white-heterosexual-male” model as the perfect specimen can no longer represent the global diversity of bodies. Yet the heavy specter of history stubbornly persists, imposing essentialist discipline upon the body through the overlapping labels of gender, ethnicity, and class. Amidst today's severe backlash against diversity, how should we view these neglected, forgotten, and prejudiced “non-conforming” bodies?

Through varied perspectives across different pieces, the artist continually engages with this theme: everyday tools from the artist's studio become the subject (body) of the work, brought to the forefront and exhibiting a flesh-like, figurative extensibility; the hue and texture of skin are treated as the medium's substance, satirizing and releasing energies that transcend symbolism within the imagery. In this era, the artist envisions a body in the process of being written—an unfinished form—rather than a lifeless, stiff shell.

《未完成的躯体》试图引导观众思考关于当代身体性的重要矛盾:在西方的理论与科学架构下,以“白人-异性-男性”为完美样本的“躯体与灵魂”研究已然无法代表全球多元的身体,但沉重的历史幽灵又顽固地在性别、民族、阶级的重重标签之中对身体进行本质主义的规训。尤其在当下严峻的反多元化浪潮中,我们该如何看待这些被忽视的、被遗忘的、被偏见左右的“非常规”身体呢?

作品中,艺术家通过不同视角持续回应这一主题:艺术家工作室中的日常工具作为作品的主体(body)被搬上台面,并展现出肉身一般的具象化延展性;皮肤的色泽与触感亦是被当作一种媒介的质地,在图像中揶揄并释放超越符号的能量。在这样一个时代,艺术家期待一具书写中的身体,未完成的躯体,而不是毫无生机,被定义的躯壳。
